From Hale Irwin at the 1983 Open Championship to Tom Whitney 40 years later at the Korn Ferry Tour’s NV5 Invitational, there have been plenty of memorable short missed putts in pro golf. We’re not talking two-footers like the one Anibarn Lahiri just missed, but actual tap-ins. And unfortunately for Paul Broadhurst, you can add his name to the short list of all-time short misses.

Playing in the opening round of the 2024 Senior Open Championship, the former Ryder Cupper went to tap in for bogey on the seventh hole after missing a par putt and completely whiffed. Have a look:

Yikes. We feel for Paul, because that’s a tough look. Plus, the commentator mentions “He’s in a bit of pain.” But again, yikes.
And Broadhurst was actually kind of cooking at Carnoustie until that point. He was one-under before that blemish, which was originally listed as a bogey, before being correctly changed to a double.
This is a two-time senior major champ missing a two-inch putt! Crazy. It’s just the latest reminder that every weekend hacker’s handicap would go up if they actually putted everything out.
