Earlier this morning we warned you that a giant wave of pickleball content was coming. Well, an hour later, it’s official.
OK, not really. At least, not yet. But get a couple golfers involved in one pickleball exhibition and pair that with an otherwise slow news day and watch out! We already shared the electricity that is Jordan Spieth playing the fastest-growing sport in the country. But now we’re worried about Spieth bouncing back from an injury suffered during that match. An injury to his pride, that is.
The match pitting Spieth and Scottie Scheffler vs NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki and tennis pro John Isner seemed like a light-hearted affair. That is until the trash-talk started surfacing. That’s because Isner didn’t serve up (get it?) just any trash-talk. He brought up the 2016 Masters. Yep, he actually went there. Have a look and listen, courtesy of Golf Magazine‘s Sean Zak:
“You hit about 18 balls on hole No. 12 that one year.” John Isner, you savage! Good lord, that’s brutal. You can practically see Spieth’s soul leaving his body after taking that blow.
Of course, Isner is referencing when Spieth blew a five-shot lead on the back nine in 2016, thanks in large part to a quadruple-bogey on 12. It’s one of golf’s most famous collapses (Danny Willett was the beneficiary of the stunning meltdown) so we’re sure Spieth still thinks about it from time to time, but to have it thrown in your face is rough.
Anyway, Ts & Ps to Spieth. And simply Ps that pickleball keeps bringing the heat.
