After Grayson Murray’s tragic passing last month, his parents Eric and Terry Murray put out a statement that ended with a touching message: “Please honour Grayson by being kind to one another. If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else.” The USGA is doing what it can to keep this mantra afloat in Grayson’s honour during the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No.2.

“The USGA remembers Grayson and pays tribute to the playing accomplishments that merited his place in the 124th US Open Championship,” the sign reads. “Be kind to one another.”
Murray had qualified for the Pinehurst major by ranking inside the top 60 in the OWGR in May, earning a full exemption into the championship. This would’ve been his third US Open showing, after competing in 2013 and 2022.
Murray was also inside the top 60 in the OWGR ranking on Monday. The USGA removed him from the list for the purposes of determining qualifiers for the US Open. By doing that Adam Scott, who was ranked 61st, moved up to No.60 and earned a spot into the Pinehurst field that will keep his major-championship streak alive at 92 consecutive starts.
