As you drive through the gates of Monash Country Club the newly constructed par-3, 17th hole greets your view. Check the pin position, as back left is the toughest. Be prepared for a course which borders Garigal National Park, providing barely a hint of noise and an almost total escape from suburbia.
While Monash has a reputation across northern Sydney for having perpetually slick greens and beautiful kikuyu fairways, the club continues to progress with recent changes.
Monash is currently constructing a purpose-built coaching facility that will house TrackMan and undercover hitting bays. The pro shop has been rebuilt, the main bar freshened while on course, the 18th green has been rebuilt, the bunkers constructed using Matrix technology, and a new course-wide irrigation system is near completion.
Almost every hole shows off the gorgeous surroundings. The bush flora is a factor on most of the perimeter holes at Monash, while rows of tall trees separate the fairways of the internal holes. It is an underrated pocket of Sydney, just minutes from the beach.
Always holding onto its foundation of inclusivity, all tees are rated for both men and women, the membership is non-discriminatory and the various clinics for men, women, children and total beginners are always popular.
