Picture this: you live in a cold weather part of the country and golf season is coming to an abrupt end. To extend it a little longer, you book a trip down to Florida. A few more rounds of warm bliss before truly shutting it down for the year. You stripe your opening drive, then just miss the green with your approach. Surely, an up-and-down par is to follow.

That’s when you’re hit with a hard dose of reality – a greenside chip off a tight, Bermudagrass lie. For those of us who spent all summer putting or bump-and-running it from everywhere off our nice Bentgrass lies, there is nothing more horrifying.
This was a situation myself and my The Loop podcast co-host Stephen Hennessey found ourselves in early and often last week in Florida. What was supposed to be a work trip for the annual Golf Digest Hot List started as a golf trip for us on Monday and Tuesday, when we got nearly 54 holes in in 24 hours before even cracking open a laptop. As enjoyable as it was, I still can’t stop having nightmares over a few chip shots where I had eyes on saving par and ended up walking away with double.Â
For some folks, though, Bermudagrass is the ideal surface. That led to this week’s “Overrated/Underrated” segment on our latest episode of The Loop – Playing on Bermuda, overrated or underrated? You probably already know where I stand…Â
Other topics discussed include “the best golfer on the planet RIGHT NOW,” the “golfiest thing in golf” and Adrian Meronk’s latest eyebrow-raising comments. Plus, Butterfield Bermuda Championship picks. Please, have a listen below, and liek and subscribe to The Loop wherever you get your podcasts:
