CHANGE is everywhere in the golf-club landscape as courses continue to open, update or expand. About to join the party is Concord Golf Club, a frequent past PGA Tour of Australasia venue in Sydney’s inner-west.
American course architect Tom Doak – something of a go-to man in world golf these days – has masterminded a new look for Concord that addresses foliage and boundary issues along with some architectural flaws.
Hemmed in on all four sides by suburbia, the course has had to defend itself in ways other than length. Concord has long held a reputation for supreme conditioning, yet time and increases in the distance the ball travels haven’t allowed the compact layout to keep pace. Doak’s shrewd input will accentuate its assets and create a bold new look.
But blink and you’ll miss the hubbub of activity. The work, which will begin in September, is expected to be completed by next March or April.
