The slew of changes proposed last month were approved at the official session of the full PGA Tour Policy Board. There was no indication in the tour’s press release of vote totals.
There are high stakes at this week’s Wyndham event, specifically for those players trying to finish inside the top 70 of the FedEx Cup standings, which last year became the new cut-off point to qualify for the playoffs.
After the news of Jimmy Dunne’s resignation from the PGA Tour policy board, former US Open winner Lucas Glover strongly criticised the PGA Tour player directors on the board during his SiriusXM radio show on Monday evening.
Glover was scheduled for 8:26am local time but was still in his hotel room when he needed to tee off. Officials called Glover to tell him that he had one minute to make it to the tee, and it was then and only then that the 44-year-old realised his costly mistake.
After a week of frantic movement as players ricocheted up and down the projected rankings, Glover didn’t just win; he was the only player who started the week outside the FedEx Cup Playoffs cutline who managed to change his fortunes.
In what was the definition of a ball-striking clinic, Glover ranked first in driving accuracy, strokes gained/approach and strokes gained/tee-to-green.
