The Presidents Cup is over, so it’s time for the PGA Tour to turn the calendar to October and focus on … the FedEx Cup Fall. This week’s Sanderson Farms Championship is the second of the eight events in which players ranked outside the top 50 on the FedEx Cup points list can continue earning points in order to lock up PGA Tour card for 2025. What exactly is at stake? For the winner at the C.C. of Jackson (Miss.), it not only means claiming and official PGA Tour victory, but also a spot in next year’s signature events as well as the Masters.

Defending champion Luke List will return after surviving a five-man playoff a year ago. He needed a 43-foot birdie putt to beat Ben Griffin, Ludvig Åberg, Scott Stallings and Henrik Norlander. List could be the first back-to-back winner of this event in 50 years.

Joining List is a field that includes PGA Tour University’s top grad in 2024, Michael Thornbjornsen, Korn Ferry Tour red-hot player Matt McCarty and tour mainstays like Eric Cole, Nick Dunlap, Mackenzie Hughes and Rickie Fowler.

This is Fowler’s Sanderson Farms debut and his first PGA Tour event since the birth of his second daughter, Nellie. It’s also his first professional start since the Open Championship in July.

This week’s winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.368 million cut of the $7.6 million purse.
