Controversial AFL media personality Sam Newman has taken his outrage about Victoria’s statewide ban on golf to a whole new level – the steps of Parliament House.
Newman, who hasn’t hid his anger that he and thousands of other Victorians have been banned from hitting the fairways, called out Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews in a somewhat comical, yet serious protest in Melbourne today.
The 74-year-old golf fanatic marched to Victorian Parliament to demand golf courses are re-opened, capturing his colourful campaign in a series of videos for his many Twitter followers.
Newman described the current decision as “absolute nonsense” and said he was “mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more.”

As of March 27, it was Golf Australia’s recommendation that, based on the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services directive issued as part of the Victorian Government’s Stage 2 restrictions regarding COVID-19, all golf clubs and facilities should close as soon as practicable until April 13, 2020.
The directive that prohibits social sports gatherings applies to golf clubs and facilities, which are classified as ‘recreational facilities’ under clause 5 of the directive. A copy of the directive is located here.
