Sahith Theegala is off to a strong start at TPC Twin Cities. After his first round, Theegala is two strokes off the pace set up by early leader Patrick Rodgers, with five birdies and no bogeys on his card.
Cam Smith won’t be at the Olympics, but will watch and cheer on Australia
It hasn’t all been glamorous, however. Stepping to the 7th tee (Theegala’s 16th hole of the day) on Thursday afternoon, the World No.11 proceeded to cold top his tee shot so badly that he failed to advance it beyond the forward tees.

Join us as we raise our fists in solidarity with Theegala. We know all too well what this feels like. It wasn’t all bad news, though. Theegala’s grisly 179-yard mis-hit – with an iron no less – came to rest on one of the aforementioned tee boxes, giving him a perfect lie from which to attack his second shot on the short par 4. Theegala fired it to the centre of the green and two-putted for par. Never in doubt, right Sahith?
This just goes to show that golf is a game of millimetres. That means anyone, regardless of skill, can look like a noob from time to time. What truly separates the pros from the Joes (besides millions of dollars and 30 to 40 strokes per round) is their ability to bounce back from a duff with a dart.
As much as we love the relatable content, here’s hoping we see more of the latter from Theegala throughout the weekend.
