Not since post Tiger Woods’ spinal fusion surgery has there been a more anticipated swing than that of Sam Newman’s first tee shot after golfing restrictions are lifted in Victoria.
The former Footy Show host has been outspoken in his criticism for Daniel Andrews and the restrictions placed on Victorian golf courses in recent weeks, and tomorrow, the country will get to see what all the fuss is about.
Sportsbet will be streaming LIVE on their social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube) Sam Newman’s first tee shot and a few holes of golf from 10:00am Wednesday morning.
“The pressure on Sammy to mince one down the guts will be akin to standing on the 18th at Augusta with a one-shot lead,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Rich Hummerston. “While his rants have polarised social media, you can bet your bottom dollar they’ll unite for a common cause if he shanks it!”
The 74-year-old golf fanatic marched to Victorian Parliament to demand golf courses are re-opened, capturing his colourful campaign in a series of videos for his many Twitter followers.
Newman described the current decision as “absolute nonsense” and said he was “mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more.”

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced Monday that from Wednesday, all Victorians will be able to return to the fairways of their local golf course.
“From 11:59pm Tuesday night groups of 10, no more than 10, will be able to participate in outdoor activities, sports activities, recreational activities,” Andrews said.
“Whether it be hiking, fishing, playing golf, going for a walk, kicking a footy.
“No more than 10 (will be allowed to participate), and there will be physical distancing and hygiene arrangements. Common sense basically.
“The rules that have been in place to this point remain in place.”
But even receiving the green light to dust off his clubs didn’t stop Newman taking one last shot at the Premier:
Obstinate to the end. Dan says ok from midnight to play. Why not NOW? Illogical AND contrived. #golf #VicGolf ⛳️⛳️ pic.twitter.com/A0vfqSkD11
