How to make the perfect brew before your morning tee-time

Summer is the time for long days, early tee-times and iced coffee.

If you’re anything like us, you relish an early morning tee-off during these warmer months. However, you know the struggle of finding a good cup of coffee before starting your round. But fear not, we have you covered!

Compliments of our friends at Allpress Espresso, here are three simple ways to make a delicious cup of coffee at home, just like the barista at your favourite café.

Iced filter

A refreshing morning brew.

What you’ll need:

  • Fresh coffee (ground for filter)
  • Hot water
  • Pour over dripper
  • Filter papers
  • Your favourite mug
  • Scales
  • Ice

Steps:

  1. Set up your mug, dripper and filter paper, and set it on your scales.
  2. Rinse the filter paper thoroughly with hot water. Tare your scales.
  3. Add your coffee dose and tare scales again – we like to brew 15 grams to 250 millilitres.
  4. Pour 50g of water over the coffee and agitate. Bloom for 30 seconds.
  5. Slowly add another 100ml of water in a circular motion. Leave for 20 seconds.
  6. Add the final 100ml of water and wait for the water to fully pass through the grounds.
  7. Pour over ice to cool enjoy!

Cold brew

Minimal effort for a damn smooth cup.

What you’ll need:

  • Fresh coffee (ground very coarse)
  • Hario brewer
  • Water

Steps:

  1. Weigh 75g of coffee and dose directly into the filter basket – secure to lid.
  2. Pour tepid water directly into the bottle until four-fifths full.
  3. Secure lid to the bottle, ensuring all grinds are submerged in water.
  4. Leave to brew for 12-16 hours (note: brew time is flexible – find your preference!).
  5. Remove lid and dispose of wet coffee grinds, then detach and clean the filter.
  6. Re-secure lid to bottle and enjoy!

AeroPress

The ultimate no-fuss, go-anywhere, do-anything brewer.

What you’ll need:

  • Fresh coffee (ground medium-fine)
  • 240ml hot water
  • AeroPress
  • Aeropress filter papers
  • Your favourite mug

Steps:

  1. Invert your AeroPress, set it on the scales and tare to zero.
  2. Add 10g of coffee then tare scales to zero again.
  3. Add 20g of water and agitate to ensure all grounds are saturated. Bloom for 30-45 seconds.
  4. Top up the remaining water to 160g and leave to brew.
  5. Add a paper filter to the cap and rinse, then lock into place.
  6. At two minutes, place your mug on top of the cap, and carefully invert onto a flat surface.
  7. Using moderate pressure, press down for 30 seconds, stopping just above the grounds.Â
