The Players Championship is featuring a cool tribute to Tiger Woods and announcer Gary Koch at TPC Sawgrass’ 17th hole on Friday. You just have to look closely to see it. Really, really closely.
First, the backstory. As most golf fans are well aware, Tiger made an incredible long, snaking putt from the back of the 17th green to a front pin location during the third round on his way to winning the 2001 Players. And Koch gave us one of the most memorable calls in golf broadcast history.

So good. OK, back to Friday. As noted on PGA Tour Live’s early morning coverage, with the famed island green par 3 using that same position, this special cup was placed in the bottom of the hole:
Again, only those plucking their golf balls out of the hole during the second round will see that, but still, pretty neat. Anyway, just wanted to point that out as you watch the action unfold. Fingers crossed we get another magical moment there at some point this weekend.
