Only two weeks after Fortinet bowed out early from its contract with the PGA Tour to sponsor the event in Napa, California, on the upcoming schedule, Procore Technologies is stepping in. The tour announced overnight, Australian time, that the software provider for the construction industry will be the title sponsor of the Procore Championship, the first event on the 2024 FedEx Cup Fall schedule. The tournament at the Silverado Resort is set for September 12-15.
Fortinet, a cybersecurity company in a highly competitive market, originally had a six-year deal to serve as title sponsor, but its final tally was three years from 2021 to ’23. It couldn’t complain about the profile of its winners, with Max Homa capturing back-to-back titles in ’21 and ’22, followed by Sahith Theegala notching his first tour win last September.
Beyond Napa, several other tournaments could have new title sponsors by next year. According to Sports Business Journal, financial corporation Truist is expected to take over the event at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, after Wells Fargo’s contract expired and a new deal could not reached. Meantime, the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), which has sponsored the Canadian Open and Heritage in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, but had those contracts end this year, is said to be taking a wait-and-see approach to how negotiations between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund work out.
