Adam Scott’s hopes of a fairytale finish at the PGA Championship came undone on the final two holes hole, as a costly bogey at the 17th and a double-bogey at Quail Hollow’s difficult 18th saw him tumble out of contention and settle for a tie for 20th at two-under-par.

The 44-year-old Australian had climbed into serious contention midway through the final round, reaching six-under-par after 10 holes and sitting just three shots off the lead held by Scottie Scheffler. With birdies at the par-3 fourth and par-5 seventh, and just one bogey on his front nine, Scott looked calm, composed, and primed for a late push especially when he made birdie at the 10th.
But the back nine told a different story. He finished with four dropped shots in his final five holes.
After solid pars from holes 11 through 13, former world No.1 Scott made bogeys at 14, crippling his momentum – given anything worse than birdie at the driveable par-4 14th lost significant ground on the field. He later made bogey at the 17th before another disaster struck.

At the infamous 18th, the final leg of Quail Hollow’s “Green Mile,” Scott carded a double-bogey 6, dropping from a potential top-10 finish to T-19.
His final-round 73 did not do justice to an otherwise sold week that included rounds of 69-71-69 for a total of 282. It marked Scott’s 95th career major appearance and continued his remarkable consistency at golf’s highest level—though the wait for a second major title, following his 2013 Masters win, continues.
Scott was joined at two-under by fellow Australian Cam Davis while Elvis Smylie, the Queenslander on PGA Championship debut, was T-72 at 10-over following three straight rounds over par.
Australians Jason Day, Cameron Smith, Karl Vilips and Min Woo Lee all missed the cut.
