Hold on to your (party) hats, folks – Cam Smith is in the house.
LIV Golf’s catchphrase is ‘Golf But Louder’ but not even LIV Golf Adelaide officials could have predicted the reception given to Ripper GC captain Cam Smith on the 12th tee during Friday’s opening round. Then again, maybe they did.
“It’s what the people want, eh?” a smiling LIV Golf commissioner Greg Norman told Australian Golf Digest greenside.
Dubbed The Watering Hole, the 12th at The Grange Golf Club is set up in the style of the Waste Management Phoenix Open’s famous stadium hole, hosting DJs and grandstands that seat thousands of fans and of course plenty of cheers, jeers and chaos. And the liquored-up gallery saved their loudest cheers for their Aussie hero and reigning Open champion.

And what about this for an intro….
Just hair-tingling stuff from a crowd that’s only going to get louder over the weekend if Smith (3-under, seven shots off the lead) can get himself at the pointy end of the leaderboard.
Meanwhile, early reports suggest LIV Golf’s onsite merchandise tents at The Grange Golf Club are selling out of team merchandise at record pace, with operations staff doubling their Ripper GC stock orders to meet demand.
