Unlike many competitors this week at Augusta National, Rory McIlroy’s equipment setup didn’t change for the 2025 Masters – with one appropriate exception.
McIlroy ditched the No.1 play number on his TaylorMade TP5 ball for a stamping on RORS instead. And man, did he produced roars in winning his first green jacket and finally completing the completing the career Grand Slam with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff with Justin Rose.
Not that their wasn’t agita along the way, including a relatively short miss at the end of regulation. However, when McIlroy needed to come up big, he responded. Like with a heroic 7-iron second shot at the par-5 15th that led to a birdie. Or a clutch 8-iron on 17 that came to rest a few feet from the hole. Or the clutch gap wedge in tight in the playoff on the 18th hole to close things out.

The newly minted Masters champion uses a split set of TaylorMade irons, utilising a P760 4-iron and Rors prototype muscleback-blade irons along with the company’s Milled Grind 4 wedges.
As for the ball, it was a switch made earlier this year from the company’s TP5x model that has McIlroy’s game in high gear.
“I sort of stumbled upon it,” McIlroy said. “I was messing around at [the Grove XXIII] last Thursday, and I just started to hit some chips with the TP5 instead of the TP5x. I really loved how it felt, and I hadn’t really tested the 2024 TP5. I loved how it was reacting around the greens and then I started hitting some 60- and 70-yard shots with it and it was coming off much lower launch, but spinnier.”

As for the winning putt, McIlroy wielded a TaylorMade Spider Tour X X3 mallet. The putter is 34.5 inches in length with 3 degrees of loft and a short slant hosel. It also features TaylorMade’s “True Roll” insert and a SuperStroke Pistol Tour grip.
