Say what you want about Bryson DeChambeau, but you cannot deny his nearly two-month-long hiatus left a massive entertainment void in the early part of the PGA Tour season.
Whether he’s hitting nukes, calling for rules officials, or mixing it up with the fans, he’s always fascinating to watch. That “it” factor was sorely missed in February and the first few weeks of March.
At this week’s WGC Match Play, DeChambeau is officially back, and his opening match against England’s Richard Bland has already provided plenty of content. But it wasn’t a rules situation or a 400-yard bomb or a run-in with a heckler that caught our attention on Thursday morning.
No, it was this absolutely FILTHY stinger DeChambeau pulled out of his bag of tricks at Austin Country Club, one that did not get higher than 20 feet in the air. Eat your heart out, Gary Woodland:
My goodness, that thing should come with a NSFW tag. 19 feet! And straight as a string. How about this dude coming out of a long break and showing he’s still got plenty of shots in the bag that don’t involve swinging as hard as humanly possible? We’re very much here for that.
By the way, while DeChambeau has claimed he’s still not fully 100 percent, he’s looked solid on Thursday (AEDT). Through seven holes, he leads Bland 1 up.
