THERE are, quite obviously, more than three holes to play at Black Bull Golf Club on the Murray River, however it is a trio on the front nine that are the focal point of the fledgling layout.

Now fully open – and earning a ranking in Australia’s Top 100 Courses for the first time – the Peter Thomson/Ross Perrett-designed Black Bull maximises its moniker by introducing golfers to the ‘Bull Ring’. Comprising the fourth, fifth and sixth holes, the Bull Ring is distinguishable by its red flags and signage that lets golfers know what they’re entering. This loop includes the toughest hole on the course, the par-4 sixth, while the other two possess a little less ‘beef’ but are no less dramatic.

The rest of the course edges towards then away from and back towards the shores of Lake Mulwala and is just one element of a huge lifestyle development that will soon include a Sebel resort. Black Bull is the first addition to the Murray River golf catchment in decades and, according to our latest ranking, it’s the best there is along the snaking waterway.
