JASON Day is leading the Aussie charge during the first round of the 144th Open championship at St Andrews.
Just weeks after suffering severe vertigo at the US open at Chambers Bay, Day fired a brilliant 6-under-par 66 to be one shot behind leader Dustin Johnson who shot a superb 65.

Day’s flawless round included six birdies and no bogeys to set up a potential run at his maiden Major victory. He’s in a share of second place at 6-under with US stars Robert Streb and Zach Johnson, as well as veterans Retief Goosen and Paul Lawrie.
Masters and US Open  Champion Jordan Spieth posted a 5-under par 67, after recording 5-under on the front nine.
