It doesn’t rank among the great courses of the world, or even Australia (or even Sydney), but it does sit upon a spectacular slice of our eastern coastline – which probably explains its most recent accolade.
Bondi Golf & Diggers Club, perched above the famous beach, has the made the list penned late in each year by talented but tempestuous golf course architect Tom Doak – a list revealing the best courses he’s seen each year for the first time:
Doak has spent considerable time in Australia recently, having penned the major redesign to Sydney’s Concord Golf Club (which also made his list), as well as currently reworking Melbourne’s Yarra Yarra and the Ocean course at The National. His time in Sydney likely drew his attention to the Bondi course, a nine-holer with extraordinary views if not-so-extraordinary holes. Still, Doak’s eye is not one to be challenged and clearly he can see the potential of the high-profile site.
