In the aftermath of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene in the southeast United States, with the death toll now 130 and likely to rise as untold thousands are displaced from their homes, rescue and relief efforts are underway to help the victims. Those efforts will come from a wide variety of sources, including the world of golf.

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) has a disaster relief fund in place to help members who have suffered personal loss from natural disasters like Hurricane Helene. For those members whose lives have been altered, the GCSAA contributes up to $2,000 per individual, and has been doing so since 2006, when the fund was established in response to Hurricane Katrina. Members who meet certain criteria, such as having to relocate from their homes or losing fundamental utilities like electricity and water, are eligible.

The disaster relief fund is administered by the GCSAA’s philanthropic arm, and members are encouraged to apply for assistance by calling 800-472-7878 or emailing [email protected].

The relief fund also accepts donations, and if you’d like to help their cause, tax-deductible donations can be made here or by texting “Disaster” to 785-693-2593.

According to the GCSAA, 100 percent of all donations will go directly to impacted members.

Even now, field staff in the southeast are working with members to spread the word on available resources. To learn more about the Disaster Relief Fund, visit this website.
