Golf: A Game-changer For Corporate Women - Australian Golf Digest Golf: A Game-changer For Corporate Women - Australian Golf Digest

The Australian Women’s Golf Network is a shining example of how our sport can bring career-minded women together.

In the realm of executive business, time is precious. Connections are invaluable. Navigating the landscape for networking and personal development can be daunting. That is, until those in business realise one of the best kept secrets in the corporate world: golf courses are the world’s best boardrooms. In Australia, there’s a conduit between the two: the Australian Women’s Golf Network (AWGN). As a co-founder of AWGN, I’ve witnessed its transformative power first-hand, offering unparalleled opportunities for personal growth, genuine connection and wellbeing to female executives like me.

Golf has always been hailed as the sport of business, and rightfully so. It transcends the traditional confines of boardrooms and conference halls, providing a dynamic environment where relationships flourish, deals are negotiated and friendships grow. For corporate women, stepping onto the golf course opens doors to a world of possibilities. In a sport where etiquette and integrity reign supreme, golf offers the perfect backdrop for fostering meaningful connections and showcasing leadership skills. More importantly, the physical and mental benefits of the game are enormous, resonating deeply with modern executive women by offering stress relief, enhanced focus, and fitness.

At the heart of this transformative journey lies AWGN, a dynamic platform that Oliver Sperlich and I founded in 2021. AWGN transcends the boundaries of traditional networking, focusing on genuine connection, high-level business opportunities and wellness. From exclusive events at Australia’s premier private clubs to intimate gatherings tailored for both beginner and elite golfers, AWGN offers a variety of opportunities for personal and professional development. By fostering a supportive environment and removing the competitive nature often associated with golf, AWGN events empower women to unlock their full potential on and off the course.

The huge growth of AWGN can be attributed to inclusivity. From humble beginnings to a thriving community with members worldwide, AWGN has inspired women seeking to expand their horizons and cultivate meaningful connections. One member’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of AWGN events: “About six months ago, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and expand my professional network. Attending my first AWGN event and learning to play golf was a nerve-wracking experience, but it turned out to be the most inclusive and supportive environment I’ve ever encountered. Thank you to everyone involved for welcoming me into your community.”

As we look towards the future, AWGN remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering women of all ages and abilities on their golf journey. Whether you’re a regular player or a first-time golfer, AWGN welcomes you, ready to support you every step of the way. Join us in breaking boundaries, forging genuine connections and embracing the power of golf. We’re redefining what it means to succeed in the world of executive business.

In just three short years, AWGN has witnessed a remarkable surge in female golf participation. It all began with our inaugural International Women’s Day event, sponsored by Bison United, which saw 20 beginner golfers from the Victorian construction and property sectors taking their first swings. Now, our community has grown with major sponsors and members in all states, comprising not just women but also supportive men, spanning international borders and united on AWGN digital platforms.

This growth wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable support of our key partners and investors, including Australian Golf Digest/Australian Golf Digest Women, American Golf Supplies (Ping/Ecco), The House of Golf, Callaway Golf and others. Their sponsorship has fuelled our expansion, enabling us to build a professional network of unprecedented scale and reach.

Reflecting on this journey of growth and inclusivity, it’s empowering to see the bright future of the AWGN. Our community continues to evolve, attracting individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill levels, all bound by a shared passion for golf and a drive for personal and professional development.

In the world of executive business, where every connection counts, AWGN is paving the way for women to thrive – both on and off the green. We are incredibly excited about the future growth of our network and the endless possibilities it holds for empowering women in executive roles worldwide.
