DP World Tour pro Marco Penge has been suspended for gambling on golf.
The DP World Tour announced overnight, Australian time, that the 26-year-old Englishman had violated the tour’s “Integrity Program”.
“An Independent Disciplinary Panel found that the Englishman placed bets on multiple golf events in breach of Regulation 3(a)(i)* of the Program,” the DP World Tour said in a statement. “Penge did not bet on himself or on the progress of tournaments during days when he was participating, leading the panel to find that the integrity of such events had not been compromised.”
Penge has been given a three-month suspension, although one month has been suspended for a year “pending further breaches of the program”.
The suspension took effect on December 13, meaning Penge can return to DP World Tour competition on February 13. He was also fined £2,000.
Penge is not the first tour pro to be suspended for gambling. In 2023, Korn Ferry Tour players Vince India and Jake Staino were suspended for six months and three months, respectively, for violating the PGA Tour’s Integrity Program. Staiano later said he placed a total of $182 ($US116) in bets in 2021.
Penge is a two-time winner on the Challenge Tour. He is currently 414th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
