Melbourne’s Michelin-starred restaurateur Curtis Stone is bringing his LA eatery, Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant, to the Presidents Cup in an Australian first for the world-famous chef.
Described as a “meat-lovers paradise” by Zagat and “the most ambitious and accomplished restaurant in Hollywood” by the Hollywood Reporter, Gwen will be featured in the Presidents Cup Fan Village adjacent to The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, serving local and international fans Stone’s unique taste of Victoria.
Stone will create a curated menu and signature cocktails with a lunch and dinner service catering to fans who want even more than the opportunity to watch the world’s best golfers battle it out for Presidents Cup honours. Stone’s brother and co-owner of Gwen, Luke Stone, will be on-site daily to implement the enterprise.
The reservation-only two course lunch and three course dinner service will feature matched premium wines, carefully selected from the Yarra Valley and beer from local Victorian breweries. The second dinner sitting will also feature the yet-to-be-unveiled signature cocktail and a car park.
Based in Hollywood, California, Gwen is both a European-style, specialty butcher shop and fine dining restaurant. The menu will reflect Gwen’s focus on fire-based cooking and some of Gwen’s classics, such as butcher shop spreads, lamb ribs and Wagyu steaks, to name a few.
This will be a unique restaurant experience, with a dining room and full bar for guests to enjoy.
A reservation at Gwen at the Presidents Cup will be available to any patron who has a general admission ticket and the 120-seat restaurant will be open from Saturday, December 7 through to the final day of competition on Sunday, December 15, with bookings opening in September.
Registration for a first opportunity to book can be made here.
“After Luke and I debuted a pop-up Gwen at Coachella in 2018, we’ve been searching for the perfect opportunity to bring the concept to our hometown in Melbourne. The Presidents Cup is a great fit,” says Stone.
“We are super excited to be bringing our fine-dining philosophy to Royal Melbourne so guests can enjoy a great lunch or dinner amid golfing greatness. I’m already working hard with my team to develop the ideal menu and Luke will be back in December running the operation.”
Presidents Cup Executive Director Matt Kamienski said the aim is to make the Presidents Cup much more than just a golf tournament and Gwen will bring something totally unique to the global team golf competition.
“Of course, with Tiger Woods leading the star-studded US Team for the first time as captain will be spectacular, but we want to take the whole event experience to another level,” says Kamienski.
“We asked our catering partners at Dean & McPherson to come up with something that was quintessentially Melbourne and Victorian and would equal the world class sporting action we will have on the course.
“In golfing parlance, with Curtis Stone, Luke Stone, and Gwen, they have broken the course record.”
