When the team at adidas began working on the Adizero ZG, they went in with the goal of making a lightweight shoe that provided ample traction and was comfortable to wear. They wanted to make sure that your shoes would never be the reason you aren’t playing more golf.
“When your feet hurt, you cannot play your best golf,” said Masun Denison, Adidas Golf’s global director of footwear. “We’ve all been out there with a shoe at some point, when you’re getting irritation and you can’t enjoy your round. This shoe is all about, if you walk off and want to play an extra nine, you’ve carried less weight around, you’ve got a little spring in your step, you can play more golf. We’re trying to let you do what you love the most, the most possible.”
Part of the reason this lightweight shoe still offers ample support is because of the torsion plate. Starting at the midfoot and reaching out into the forefoot, the plate is made of stiff material that flexes down when you press your weight down on it, and then back up when you unweight it. Carbon plates are popular in running shoes because of this bounce-back effect. While walking 18 holes isn’t the same as running a marathon, having the benefit of some spring can make the walk feel easier.
“We started looking at some of the running shoes with the carbon propulsion blades,” Denison said, “and we were like, how can we give more snap back and spring to a golfer? How do we make you enjoy the walking more, and come off the course feeling more refreshed?”
For improved comfort, the engineered sock-liner and tongue create a snug fit that’s also stable. The heel cushion is new, and was inspired by adidas’ running line. With more cushion, it adds comfort while locking your heel into place.
Turn the shoe over and you’ll see that it’s spikeless. But traction is not sacrificed. Tour players including Ludvig Aberg, Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard, and Linn Grant are all wearing the Adizero ZG in 2025. Tour-level traction is achieved by the design of the traction elements. Material is cut out beneath some of the lugs to give the lugs space to flex.
“The outside lugs are really important because they give you a spring-like effect,” Denison explains. “They’re adaptive. We did an undercut on them. So when you step you get that comfort from them. They also dig in a little bit and give you really good grip.”
The shoe is offered in both men’s and women’s sizing, and there is also a junior option. The shoes are available with either standard laces or BOA closure system.
