Set in a surreal alpine location where The Remarkables serve as an inspirational backdrop, Millbrook Resort has been a key figure in Queenstown’s tourism boom. And since opening in 1992, the 5-star resort in the gold rush town of Arrowtown has played a major role in helping to redefine New Zealand as a genuine golfing destination.
Millbrook’s character is accentuated by the charming old farmhouse and mill on the former wheat farm that were transformed into a modern clubhouse with four on-site restaurants. The resort’s luxurious accommodation features French provincial décor.
Sir Bob Charles designed the original 18-hole layout spread over 200 hectares of the Wakatipu Basin. Greg Turner renovated the course in 2010, adding the Coronet Nine to transform Millbrook into a 27-hole facility.
The holes traverse prairie and parkland where babbling brooks and mature trees provide aesthetic appeal. Indeed, Millbrook looks spectacular during autumn when a variety of hues come to the fore.
Privately owned by the Ishii family, Millbrook Resort will co-host the coming ISPS Handa New Zealand Open (1-4 March).
