It just wouldn’t be a US Open without drama. Complaints about the setup being unfair. Big names beaten by high-school science teachers in qualifiers. Worldwide pandemics, world-ranking points and Phil Mickelson hitting moving balls. If you can dream it up, the US Open has delivered it. This, however, is a new one.
According to multiple reports from the grounds this week, grandstand seating around Pinehurst No.2 has been collapsing on fans this week after the construction company used screws that were too short in an effort to cut costs. No Laying Up’s Tron Carter has the scoop.

Folks, we officially have a situation.
Also keep in mind that the last time the USGA held an Open at Pinehurst they paired Lowry, de Jonge and Stadler. Are they sending a message?? pic.twitter.com/kwQcZPFtb4

Buckle up (literally). It’s only Wednesday and we already have fans falling out of their chairs and last year’s US Open champion calling the greens “borderline”. Apparently, the situation got so slapstick, event organisers had to close the entire grandstand near the second hole for repairs. That has to be a US Open first.
Needless to say, we hope everyone’s tailbones survive unbruised and the course setup holds better than the seats, otherwise it’s going to be carnage out there.
