Nike’s annual golf shoe release ahead of the Masters is always highly anticipated. Designers continually come up with unique ways to honor the game and the first major of the year that all golfers can relate to. This year, Nike found inspiration in the evolution of golf clubs and big hitters. From vintage wooden clubs to techy metals, the limited edition Air Jordan 9 G NRG Golf Shoes are available for members now (and are expected to sell out quickly).

At first glance, the shoe appears to be a two-toned brown colorway with metallic details accenting the neutral palette. Upon closer inspection, a wood grain texture reminiscent of hickory golf clubs is revealed in the darker brown sections at the mudguard and heel. The design comes from popular artist and woodworker Steve Thomson, also known as Happy Life Wood.

Adding to the woody theme, the shoes feature a custom insole with the appearance of light wood and a “wood burned” Air Jordan logo. The insoles are lined with responsive full-length memory foam to add comfort—if you dare walk on these one-of-a-kind kicks.

A silver “Air Jordan” place at the tongue is a nod to more modern golf clubs. More bronze-y metallic hits are found at the eyelets and backtabs. According to the brand, designers were inspired by the “cutting-edge clubs that continue to set trends and smash through performance barriers.”

Keeping to a simple white and gray design, the cleated outsole features seven removable spikes below a durable stability plate to add traction and ground control. A new leather strip was added to the back of the midsole to add even more stability during the swing.
