RORY McIlroy has become an ambassador for fitness and men’s health, but it doesn’t stop him ‘doing as the Romans do’ when in California’s renowned Napa Valley wine region.

McIlroy was obligated to play in the US PGA Tour 2015/16 season opener – which began on Friday AEST – in exchange for permission to play in an exhibition tournament in Turkey three years ago.

Following the Northern Irishman’s credible opening round of 4-udner par 68, McIlroy admitted he was considering hitting the vineyards.

“There’s a lot of stuff to do off the course (in Napa),” he said after the round. “So you try to find a balance and not feel too hungover when you tee it up the next day.”
